Barrandovske terasy

Formal functionalist restaurant and café with lookout tower is built on a rock above the Vltava river to imitate view on the ocean (inspired by a restaurant in San Francisco called a Cliff house) The building with its originally white exterior was built to stand out of its mostly residential surroundings.

Because of that, people that live there don‘t have a big choice when they want to do something and have to go to the city center, especially for creative people or small artists.
This is quite a problem in the city center as well, small artists can exhibit their work mostly in cafés. Because the big galleries and museums only take in historic or famous exhibitions and art collections.

Concept
This project aims to create a space for small artists to exhibit on a bigger scale, which means that on the second floor (the glass rooms) would be a space where artists can exhibit their work as well as organize workshops and events. It would give them space where they could create together and help each other (benefit out of each other) in the right spirit of Bauhaus.

This project also aims to bring back the original character of the building, in the form of a lookout tower, restaurant and café on the first floor.

KEY MOVES

Make people see the view (organize activities, entrance strategy, and layout so people can see out wherever in the building they are)

Create a more interesting entrance for everyone. (A ramp going around the building that leads to former terrace entrance)

Keep the history of the building (keep history through restoring the exterior of the building to its original glory and keep the bar and restaurant like it was built for in 1929)

Create co-working artists space (Bauhaus principle - artist help and benefit of each other and organize workshops)

Blend all the spaces together(make the building feel whole by creating the exhibition spaces all around the building which creates circulation through the whole building.

Inserting removable walls, so space can either be used as a workshop room or exhibition for public. (flexibility of the spaces)
